Building Design and Permit Plans in Anaheim

Anaheim reviews a residential project in two places. Planning and Building review the drawings; Public Works holds the permit until the sewer and site requirements clear. Most of our Anaheim projects are garage conversion ADUs and additions, and most of the time between approved plans and an issued permit has been spent with Public Works.

Our Work in Anaheim

Garage conversion ADUs in 2024 and 2026 both met the same gate: the City required a sewer-capacity, or sewer-deficiency, clearance from Public Works before the permit could proceed, with addressing coordinated at the same time. A second-story addition has its permit issued, with final coordination in April 2026, where the last item was the contractor’s business-license clearance. A patio converted to floor area reached “approved and ready for permit issuance” in September 2025, with Public Works comments and construction-and-demolition documents handled as a separate follow-up. A 2026 garage conversion with an addition is in plan check, where the plan checker asked for the current code-year notes and a soils report, and we commissioned the geotechnical work.

How review works in Anaheim

Planning and Building review land use and the construction documents; Public Works separately handles sewer capacity and site requirements.

What comes up most: the sewer-capacity clearance before permit release, with soils and code-year documentation close behind.
