How review works in Commerce
Commerce reviews ADUs and additions through its Community Development Department, whose Planning Division reviews all residential development proposals. Plans are submitted electronically to the Building and Safety Division, and completed permit applications go to the City by email. State law gives the City 60 days from a complete application to decide on an ADU, and 30 days on a pre-approved plan. We submit to Commerce the same way we submit everywhere: a complete set, the corrections answered in writing, and the permit carried through issuance.
